Railway and Tramway
Railway traction power systems must supply traffic safely and reliably. Overhead contact lines, converter and rectifier stations, return circuits, earthing and protection systems form a technical whole with many interfaces to track, signalling, rolling stock and operations.
This course introduces the structure of railway traction power supply and explains how the different parts of the system interact. The emphasis is on system understanding, operational reliability, risks and maintenance. The course does not replace electrical safety training that grants formal authorisation, but it provides a sound foundation for people who plan, procure, manage or monitor work on railway electrical installations.
